EDU 530 Visual Stories

Please post your visual stories here. Please tell me your goals, obstacles, and hobbies. Use a metaphor or simile to describe these too.

My goals are clouds; they are having children with my husband, getting tenure, and publishing my third book.

My obstacles are mountains, and they have been: losing both of my parents as an undergraduate student, having custody of my niece and nephew, and juggling two jobs while I finished my Ph.D.

My hobbies are a stream beneath the mountains. They are: reading, watching movies, writing, volunteering, participating in a weekly Bible study group, growing plants, and playing with my 100 pound Lab named Missy.

Now, tell me about yourself!

  1. My goals are a railroad which has a train presents myself. The train has to stop many stations to reach each goal before it arrives the final goal. First, I want to graduate master degree. Second, I want to pass TOEFL test at least 89 minimum score. Then I can take occupational therapy license. Of course, I want to get the license and work with special children. Third, I want to success in my work and be able to take care my family. Forth, I want my children success in their life and have a better life than me. The last goal is that I want to live peacefully with my husband in the rural area.
My obstacles are the conditions along the railroad and the distance. Before I can reach each destination, I realize that I have to take some time and pass different environments, such as floodings, accidents on the railroad, terrorist attracks(just kidding), and so on cause the train stop running in the middle of its travelling. Similar to obstacles in my real life, I have to study hard even though I am very lazy to read the book or tired. I have to manage my time to go to school and take care of my children. I have to find money to finance cost of my school and test fee. I have to wait result of the tests, connections between agencies in the U.S. and Thailand, and so forth. Hopefully, I don't give up before.
My hobies are landscapes around the railroad. With the long distance of the railroad, it passes varieties of places. Likewise, I have a lot of opportunities to travel in many countries in the past several years. The most significant trip that I had is coming to America. It turns my vision about the world upside down. I see diversity people, cultures, language, and life style within one country. It is a great experiences. Additionally, I like to travel around the continent when I have free time.

  3. My Big picture is a puzzle (ASD illustration:) ). All of the pieces I have are m goals: Get my masters, Learn more about ABA, Become a better teacher for my students, Know my husband more to love him better, have my own kids one day, and to keep dreaming.

My obstacles are the missing puzzle pieces here and there; in the middle, some corners or side pieces: I'm a new teacher, I'm newly married, and learning how to juggle all the stresses and responsibilities of adult life while still living well!

Framing out my puzzle are my interests: Andrew Scott Gillies, God, Family, Friends, Shopping, Children with ASD, Food, Movies, and Zumba.

I love my life and the people in it. They help guide me and support me in reaching my goals. :)

  4. My goals are like Road. A road can lead anywhere and can have many turns along the way. I want to get my Master's which will in turn give me lots of opportunities or turns in the road. This road can lead me anywhere.
My obstacles are sometimes like a speed bump in the road that slow me down but don't completely stop me. I am a new mother of a precious 6 month old daughter. I have started a new position and I am trying to find time to get all the things done in a day that I need to get done. Sometimes those obstacles are more like a fork in the road. Sometimes I wish I could just not work or go to school and devote all my time to my daughter but I also love my job and love what I do.
My hobbies are like yield signs. I usually buzz on by without time to enjoy them but sometimes you just have to stop at them. I enjoy time with friends and family even if that is always a brief time I try to make a little time to enjoy.

  5. My goals are like a pyramid, and each individual person represents a goal. They are different sizes and have different strengths and weakness but all together they make a strong pyramid. I want to finish my masters degree. Then take my BCaBA board exam in December and become BCaBA certified. I also would like to become BCBA certified when my masters is completed. There is also a larger goal of living a happy and content life with a husband and children.

My obstacles are like when a person in the pyramid doesn't pull their weight and doesn't complete their given job in the pyramid. This can make the entire pyramid crash down, so it must be built carefully and with skill. I have a new job with more responsibility. I also tend to take on to many projects because I like to stay busy.

My hobbies are like when the pyramid finally hits and it really is a work of art. I coach cheerleading at my alma mater, where I was a cheerleader. I love doing this and if I could make it into a full time job I would. I love to spend time with my boyfriend and my dog. I have a wonderful family that I enjoy spending time with as well. These things are like the icing on the cake and make everything else worth it. Even when the pyramid is very difficult to build these things are what keep me going and keep me grounded.

    My Visual Story
My goals are full rainbows; renewing my teaching certificate, being positive about different avenues of my life, and being married for 50 years! My obstacles are Mt. Rockclimb: that my husband had a heart attack about 2 years ago, working while taking hours to renew my certificate, and having children at a distance. My hobbies are pine trees on the mountain: walking, shopping, reading, and cooking.

  8. My goals are like a long hike in the desert. I recently finished up my undergraduate degree after going on and off to school for the past ten years. My next goal is to get my Master's degree and BCBA certification. I finish my ABA coursework this winter and the masters degree next summer. My dream is to become a behavior analyst and spend my career helping those with autism.

The hot desert that I am hiking along is my obstacles. I am blessed to have a great husband and two children, one of which has severe autism. Some days I get tired of fighting to make it through the path, and I may even be envious every once in a while of those with less strenuous places to hike. However, I've grown to learn the desert is beautiful. Even though we may not hike at the same pace as others, we may be tired, or have dust storms, we always keep going. Even when I've had to go through the path when my husband was in Iraq. I'm stronger now than I was before I started on the journey. I've learn to celebrate each step and appreciate how unique the desert is. Now I can't imagine hiking anywhere else.

The cool desert nights are my hobbies. I like to paint, draw, or work on crafts. It helps me to relax and regroup for the next day in the desert.

  11. My goal is a football goalline. I am a veteran teacher of 20 years and recently changed fields from Phys Ed to Special ed. I would like to work with autistic children to help them function better in life.

The time clock is my obstacle..teaching full time, coaching 2 sports, singing in two musical groups, raising 3 children and working on my masters.....time is a real issue, the two minute warning comes too soon at the end of the day!

My hobbies are my time outs. I sing, coach, and enjoy traveling with my family.
